Massage Terms
Lomi-Lomi/Esalen
- Lomi-Lomi is a flowing, relaxing massage technique from Hawaii that,
until recently was reserved solely for the benefit of Hawaiian royalty.
It promotes a sense of overall well being. Esalen massage started in the
mid 1960's and reflects the Lomi-Lomi form in both it's fluidity and it's
focus on relaxation.
Polarity -
The balancing of energy between two points; Polarity works with the electromagnetic
field of the body.
Reflexology
- This form of healing works the reflexes in the feet which correspond
to all the glands, organs, and other parts of the body. Working these
points promotes release of congestion throughout the entire body.
Swedish - Deep
tissue work, which includes kneading, pounding, chopping etc. Swedish
massage helps the body release toxins and allows for a greater state of
health.
Shiatsu - Japanese
acupressure massage - also referred to as "acupuncture without needles".
Shiatsu is the application of finger pressure to certain acupuncture points
along the 12 main meridian
lines running laterally throughout the body. The benefits of Shiatsu include
restoration of balance to the
system and deep tissue relaxation.
